About Us

100% Renewable Electricity by 2020
Meet our new partners, the student led - The Leadership Campaign, formerly Powershift. The Leadership Campaign is supporting 100% renewable electricity by 2020. This fall they organized Sleep-Outs on the Boston Common on Sunday evenings risking arrest. Several hundred students were given summons including Nancy (Read the UU Mass Action blog on my Nov. Sleep-Out.) and now are reporting to court to pay those fines. Three Sleep-Outs are scheduled this year, Feb. 20 in Amherst, Mar. 20 in Cambridge and Apr.l 21 on Boston Common. Please join the students for their early evening rally even if you can not Sleep-Out.

Homeless Prevention
In 1988, General Assembly passed a General Resoution, "Housing for the Homeless". The Resolution begins "Recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every human being, we as Unitarian Universalists hold that access to affordable, habitable housing is a fundamental right in a just society." Click here for the remainder of the statement. Housing for the Homeless is even more critical today. Email Nancy if you would like to schedule a forum to learn more housing issues in Massachusetts.

We accomplished....

  • Governor Patrick signed the 'Expiring Use' bill on Nov. 30. Thousands of units of affordable housing that were at risk of being converted into market-rate housing may now be preserved for low-income residents. Thanks to the many UUs who called their Senators and Representatives in support of this bill. Click here for more details on this bill.

  • UU Mass Action joined with other State Advocacy Networks to testify in favor of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finding that greenhouse gases can be regulated under the Clean Air Act, because the gases pose a threat to public health and welfare. More details....

  • The UU Massachusetts Action Network is led by a Board of Directors comprised of Ministers and Lay Leaders from the Ballou Channing, Clara Barton, and Mass Bay districts and an Executive Director.

UU Mass Action is generously supported by these churches and organizations.
