In early 2021, Families for Justice as Healing filed groundbreaking legislation to establish a 5-year moratorium on jail and prison construction and expansion. As our criminal justice system disproportionally impacts People of Color, this campaign is a critical way to show up for Racial Justice.
Massachusetts has one of the lowest rates of incarceration of women in the country, and the MA prison population has been generally decreasing. The number one reason formerly incarcerated women say they ended up in prison is because they did not have access to dignified housing. With this moratorium, what if we instead invested $50 million in housing, healthcare and treatment facilities, community centers, and small businesses? Let us fight for racial justice, and reimagine communities together!
Join UU Youth Corps to go knock on doors, gather signatures, and/or make phone calls to support the No New Women’s Prison campaign.
This is event is for all ages!
